Moving Tips: Getting Ready for the New Owners

Learn How To Paint Whimsical Characters On The Doors Of Your Dental Practice

If you own a pediatric dental office, you want to create an environment that is warm and inviting to children. One of the easiest ways to make kids feel comfortable is to make their environment welcoming. You can easily make your dental practice feel cozier by adding a few characters to each room. Use the following guide to learn how to paint characters on the backs of the doors in your exam rooms.

Prime the Doors

The first thing you need to do is paint the backs of the doors with primer. Primer is a special type of paint that creates a blank canvas for you to create a design on when you want to paint. The primer can be rolled onto the door using a paint roller and needs to be left to dry for a few hours before you continue with the process.

Choose Your Characters

Next, you need to choose which characters you want to paint on the doors. You can go online and find numerous images of characters that will comfort children when they see them. Choose a few that you like and print them off the computer using a traditional printer.

Outline Your Characters

Next, use a black marker to outline the images you printed. You want the lines to be very bold so that you can easily see them. Go into an exam room, close the door, and prop the image up so that it is directly across from the door. Prop a flashlight behind the paper so that the light will shine through the image onto the door. Turn off the light and you should see the outline of the character shining onto the door. You can move the image closer to the door to make it smaller. Use a washable marker to outline the image onto the door.

Paint the Character

Once you have completely outlined the character, use black acrylic paint to go over the outline you traced. Allow the paint to dry for an hour or so and then use colored acrylic paint to give the character a unique look. Allow the paint to dry overnight before allowing children into the room.

When kids see the many characters in the room, they will have something to talk about and it will distract them from the exam they are about to have. It also serves as a great conversation starter for you to be able to start to build the trust of your little patients right away.
